Step by step He leads me

November 4, 2010

Greetings from Wisconsin!

I have just recently returned home from Missouri as my grandma has been experiencing poor health of late. She was admitted into the hospital because she was dehydrated, had low blood pressure, as well as a couple different infections, one being a mild case of pneumonia. Grandma has been doing poorly for a while, suffering from Dimentia of late, as well as Glaucoma for many years. About a month ago when my mom was visiting, Grandma made a conscious decision for Christ. We are praying that she feels His love and presence near her during this time of a lot of confusion and pain in her body. Grandma will probably be staying in the hospital for a while so the doctors can run some tests. Please remember her in prayer, as well as her many children and their families.

Thank you all for praying, and for standing behind me in my decision-making. I have been learning so much about trusting God this year, and this is just one more step for me. I have made a decision this past week to not have chemotherapy treatment, but rather to pursue health by natural means, involving change in my diet, and herbal supplements to bring my body back to health. It was a big decision to make, and I struggled a lot to know which way was the best way for me. I believe I have chosen a path that is not very popular, and yet one I believe will be the best for the sake of my health.

I had an appointment with my Naturopath today, and she sees good progress in my health, though I still have to work at getting my body back to a stronger state because of the cancer. One of my greatest points I need to work on is sleep, as so much healing can occur while resting. I can sleep, but I need to get more sleep, by going to bed early.

Also, I want to express my gratitude for your prayer support for Michail during his long recovery period from his bed sores. He is still slowly but surely getting better, and has been able to begin to function a bit more normally this past week, as he has been able to spend even more time up in his wheel chair, and not in bed all the time. We both still covet your prayers for a total and complete recovery!

Again, I cannot say enough how thankful I am for you all. You have helped me to keep going during one of the hardest years of my life. Don't ever feel like you are not helping someone by praying for them. I can truly say that the peace that I have felt through my trial with cancer has been tremendous, and I know it is a result of you holding me up in prayer before the Lord, night and day.

This passage of scripture has been my testimony. God has allowed all that I have been facing to use it later in my life as a message to bring to others who may be experiencing the same suffering.

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too. If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer. Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort. For we do not want you to be ignorant, brothers, of the affliction we experienced in Asia. For we were so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life itself. Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead. He delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will deliver us again. You also must help us by prayer, so that many will give thanks on our behalf for the blessing granted us through the prayers of many.” 11 Corinthians 1:3-11

Thank you again for following me with these emails. I know I am apt to write a lot, so I appreciate those of you who take time to read these updates.

Blessings in the name of Yeshua,

Melanie

Blessed is he who believes when he cannot see

October 26, 2010

Greetings Dear Friends,

Thank you for remembering Michail and I in prayer. I have returned home to the United States, following a two week visit in Canada. I left Michail in a much improved condition, praise God!

Michail saw a wound care specialist doctor (Oct.18), and he received good news, just as I had specifically prayed. The doctor was able to debride(remove effected tissues) of one sore, and he gave Michail permission to spend 1-2 hours a day in his wheelchair! This was awesome news for both of us. I was so glad to see God answer prayer.

The difficulty is not yet over, as Michail's recovery time will still be about at least four weeks. His first time up in his chair was great! We went for a walk in the beautiful Autumn weather. It was so good to see Michail up and getting around again, though it was tiring for him after a short time. Can't you just see the delight on both of our faces?

We realized how grateful we are for his wheelchair, after him being in bed for three weeks. Isn't it amazing how often we take things in life for granted?

Please continue to pray for my sweetie, as he is still slowly healing.

Pray that the sores will recover in a way that he can soon be back to normal. The latest news is that Michail is being treated with a laser light for his bed sores, and seems to have been experiencing much improvement because of it! We are truly grateful for all those who have helped to make Michail more comfortable, and all the ideas and helpful hints that you have shared with us.

In spite of the discomfort and inconvenience of being in bed all day long, the time Michail has spent down has not been worthless. He said that the Lord has been teaching him so much about surrender to the sovereignty of God and having patience to wait on the Lord.

The Lord has taught us both so much spiritually through all these trials and challenges. He has given us the opportunity to get to know each other more. We have enjoyed many times of prayer together and with other believers, as they have rallied around Michail at this time period. It is wonderful to see how the body of Christ comes together when one member of the body is weak.

Many friends from his church, and Messianic Fellowship have been coming on a regular basis, many of them bringing gifts of fresh fruit, vegetables and healthy snacks for both of us to enjoy. They have been very considerate of my current diet restrictions, and Michail has been very good about supporting me by joining me in my healthy alkaline diet.

Other friends have come from out of town, traveling a long way to both visit Michail, and to get to know me. It has been a blessing to get to know many of Michail's friends that have been supporting me in prayer since I received news about my health condition. Some of them have even contributed financially to help cover my Canadian hospital expenses before they even met me in person! The body of Christ is amazing!

We have also shared many mealtimes with some of Michail's unsaved friends as we believe for their salvation.

I am continuing to believe God for his provision. There is still a large outstanding amount owing for the Canadian hospital bill, and I currently do not have any income. However, I have personally witnessed how the Lord has been providing, and continues to provide in answer to prayer. One of the ways God has miraculously provided for me was the approval from the state of Wisconsin for full medical coverage of the expenses for my surgery in August and the hospital stay that followed. Thank you Yahweh-Jireh – my Provider! His grace continues to amaze me every new day.

Thank you to all of you for your prayers, love, and letters of encouragement. You have blessed me beyond words. Please continue to believe with me for my total healing, and Michail's recovery from bedsores, and also his total healing from paralysis.

I thank my God upon every remembrance of you,

Melanie

Please pray for us!

Dear Friends,

I am writing with an urgent prayer request for my dear Michail. Three weeks ago, he develoved 2 bed sores, and has since then been confined to his bed, only able to lay on his right or left side, and sitting up is impossible.

He has been having some care, but, it seems, not the best, as the condition of the sore seems to just worsen.

Please pray for him, emotionally, as this is very tough on him. He has been learning a lot spiritually, as he has had so much time to be down. The Lord has been speaking to him about surrender and patience, but I know, personally, as I have been able to be with him for the past 2 weeks, that it is very hard on him. Already being limited to a wheelchair, it is extra tough to have to now be limited to his bed.

We would both appreciate your prayers, as this is very tough on me as well. I want to help him so much, and do all that I can, and I feel so helpless. I can't give him the help he needs, and yet I know it has been a blessing for both of us to have had this time to spend with eachother in spite of the circumstances. It is almost comical how we have run into this kind of situation so often since we have known each other. Either I am down and he is lifting me up, or he is weak, and I am trying to be encouraging to him.

Personally, I am doing well, in spite of getting over a cold that I have picked up in Canada, during my stay here. Otherwise, I am feeling great. I am recovering very well following my operation, and am currently following a very strict raw foods diet given by a Naturopath that I am seeing. I am still trusting the Lord to show me what steps to take to best care for my body. Right now I am honestly not thinking much about myself, since Michail is suffering so much. I hurt for him. I wish I could help to make it all better, but at this point I have to simply, and again, trust God. That is what I keep being brought back to. Why there has been so much of this in my life right now, only He knows. I want to accept what comes my way with understanding that He knows why.

I appreciate all your prayers. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

God bless you, dear ones,

Melanie

Surgery

Tomorrow(Tuesday) morning I will be going into surgery at 7:30am to remove a football size mass on my left ovary. It is uncertain what type of tumor/cyst I have until after the operation when it is sent for testing.

I have been in a lot of pain the past few days, because I have had a change in my pain medication to prepare for the operation. The medication I am currently on has not helped with the pain as much.

The surgery is scheduled to last for about 2-3 hours, depending on what they find after testing the tumor after removal. If the tumor is found to be malignant, then they will have to go back in and do a biopsy of other things. We are praying that this is unnecessary, and that the surgery will remove the mass intact and leave nothing behind. It will be major surgery for this reason. They want to remove it in one piece. Following the surgery, I will have a few days to recover in the hospital before returning home to my family's house in Milwaukee.

I want to extend many thanks to all that have helped out with my brothers and sisters while my parents were in Canada, and all those who have unceasingly prayed for me. Thank you so much! The way you have expressed your love and devotion has touched my heart in ways that I could never have imagined!

Please continue to keep my family in your prayers. This has been a hard trial for them. They have been real troupers, but have been through so much already to try and do the best for me, and keep me comfortable.

We will definitely try to keep everyone updated, but please be patient with us if there is no response for a while. Phone calls will probably be the best way to get a hold of my family, if not on facebook.

Emotionally, I have been doing well, for the most part. At times, I have definitely struggled a lot. But God has really encouraged me to see that He has a bigger plan in mind. I am excited to see what testimony He is going to bring out of this! The Lord has been my strength. I would not be able to go on without Him.

Michail is currently on his way from Canada to be near me during my surgery and recovery. I am blessed to have such an awesome man in my life who loves me and cares about me before himself.

I love you! Hugs to you all.

He is my Defense. I shall not be moved!

Dear Friends,
I don't know how many of you have been following the details of my present condition on facebook, but here I will attempt to give a more detailed update.

I am still in Canada, and will be remaining here for a while I suspect, as the health procedures necessary for my condition are more affordable here than in the states, as I have no health coverage there, nor here, for that matter. Yet, even in this, there will still be a considerable amount of hospital bills, and in spite of my current low income situation, I know that somehow the Lord is going to provide all the finances needed.

God has graciously allowed me to be here with dear friends for this time- Michail's family-and I really believe God has His hand on this whole situation. The support I have been receiving has so encouraged me to keep on, and keep my eyes on my Father. I have been fearful, and have struggled a lot, but the Lord has been my help.
I returned to the hospital for an MRI following an ultrasound, which confirmed what the doctors suspected. I have a very large growth on my left ovary, the size of a football. Shocking, yes. I am not quite sure what to make of it, but God knows.
I saw a gynecologist the day after the MRI, and she confirmed that I needed surgery to have it removed as soon as possible. We are waiting for he hospital to call us back regarding the date of the surgery, as I have been placed on an emergency cancellation list. The doctor said that [unless God intervenes] I will definitely lose my left ovary, and they are not sure about the right ovary, as the size of the mass keeps them from being able to see very clearly before operating. We are praying the surgery can begin tomorrow.
For a woman, obviously this is a very serious thing, especially at my age, and being single. We are praying for a miracle, and even the preservation of the left ovary, should the Lord be so gracious.
Also, though this condition is not uncommon for a woman of my age, it is not very common for it to be this size. They will not know the type of tumor/cyst it is until they have removed it and can send it for testing. Of course it will be tested for cancer, etc.
My parents were able to get their passports expedited very quickly and make it to Canada, after quite a procedure, and many, many praying friends and family interceding on their behalf.
They drove to the passport office in Detroit, MI, and walked out with their passports in one hour! Praise the Lord. I am so glad they can be here to support me, and they are glad to be near me, of course, during this tough time.

Of course, because I do not know the outcome of this surgery, or what will follow, I am very unsure about the future in regards to my upcoming missions trip to Moldova.
As you can imagine, all of my attempt at beginning to raise support for my trip has been put on hold, as I have been in an intense amount of pain, have been in and out of the emergency room and hospital, and have been on pain medication round the clock-which only seems to take a small edge off the discomfort I am feeling.
Only God knows, of course. All I can say is, I can do no preparation ahead of time at this point. I am away from home, and may be for an extended period of time, depending on the results of my surgery.
Please freely tell anyone you can about me. I can use all the prayer I can get.
Thank you so much for all your prayer support and encouraging words. I will try to keep you updated as much as possible. If I am unable, I am sure my family will try to post news on facebook.
I am blessed beyond words because of all the awesome support I have been getting from home, in Canada, and around the world. The Body of Christ is so indescribable!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

the latest and the greatest from the homefront...

Hello everyone. It is really me. I am still alive! There is so much to share right now, that I am unsure of how to begin, but I know I must, or I will continue to leave you hanging longer.

About four weeks ago, I made a decision that changed things in my preparations for the mission field. I realized that after striving so hard to accomplish so many things all at once, that I had to give up. Give up? I can hear some of you saying, "No! Never give up! We don't quit, remember?". I well remember this from Moldova. My team and I were fighters, and were not willing to let anything stop the work that God intended to do in our lives to touch other lives.

Let me explain how I gave up. I was striving hard to juggle a bunch of things all at once, that I think God did not want me to bear alone. First, upon returning home from Moldova, I was immediately thrust into the busyness of life, and though I was given time to recuperate, the culture change was very drastic, and getting use to a fast pace world again, that for some reason was even faster than normal, after being accustomed to a laid back, slow moving culture, was not easy at all. but I had no choice. I was needed at my place of work. Shortly after returning home, I found out that my boss' wife needed to have major surgery. We were all glad that the surgery did not have to take place until to a later date, so I had some time to get accustomed to the campground routine again, and somewhat gain footing for what was coming, as well as give her time to prepare herself.
The surgery was successful on June 18th.

Since her surgery, my boss' wife has been on medical leave for the past 4 weeks, unable to assist me in the office. It the middle of this recovery we were hit with a big holiday weekend, July 4. By the grace of God we made it through that weekend, considering the multitude of issues that surfaced with campers. Along with this, I began to not feel well, which, after seeing a doctor, resulted in a stomach problem because I had been stressing myself too much. It was not just work alone was causing stress in my life, but other very important decisions I have been faced with, which is to follow in detail.

All this time, I have also been balancing another very important decision in life, which you know about if you have been following this blog. I have been preparing to return to Moldova for 2 years. When I returned from Moldova in April of this year, I was willing to take up the challenge to get ready to return there in 4 short months. I was ready to trust God to provide for a trip in a small window of time, because I knew He was able to come through for me. I still believe in His ability to do that. But, I believe He also spoke to me that I needed to be wise in my preparations as well. I was allowing the stress of too many things to take its toll on my physical body, which was not a good start to preparing for overseas travel.
So, after prayer, and counsel with leadership in the organization I am affiliated with, I made a decision to postpone my August trip to January. This will give me more time to raise support, and spend time with my family, and overall, just time to settle things here in a timely manner before leaving.

As I posted a couple entries ago, I have been accepted for this trip, so I can begin to receive support for my trip. There is a lot involved, but I know that as God has called me, He will equip me. Pretty soon I will post more concrete details regarding my trip, and if anyone is interested in receiving a prayer letter from me, with more details, please send me your home address one of several ways:

And, last but ccertainly not least, I have to mention with a smile, something else very new and exciting that is going on in my life of late. In the midst of the hubbub of the above mentioned things going on in my life, a certain special Russian man slipped into my life, and has found a place in my heart. It is a unique story we share, and in spite of how technology can really stink at times, I am so blessed by the way that God has used it in my life for the past 2 months to unite me with such a wonderful man of God.
Michail Bantseev came into my life somewhat unexpectedly this spring. I have been corresponding with the Bantseev family in Siberia for 5 years, since I had showed interest at one point in going to Siberia for ministry with his brother's family. Though not completely unknown to me, all these years, Michail was the one helping them out by sending prayer letters and updates out to friends and family. I was a recipient of those mailings. I also became a part of his ministry(quadonamission.com) mailing list at some point over those years. In spite of the fact that we had some sort of connection, our paths never crossed, personally, until this May, when we became friends on Facebook, and shortly after, on Skype. Our relationship has taken wings! It's awesome to see what God has been doing, and how we have been living almost side by side in two different countries, complete strangers, but destined for something much bigger, when God saw fit to bring us together.
Michail is originally from Siberia, but has lived most of his life in Canada, where his family immigrated from Siberia about 22 years ago.
About a week ago, Michail made the long journey from London, ON to come to Wisconsin to meet me-our first face to face encounter, aside from over Skype! It was awesome! God answered a lot of his questions, and calmed a lot of fears in both of our hearts. We have made a decision in our hearts that we are going to follow what God is doing in our relationship. We are now "seeing each other" also known as courting -as much as you can between Canada and Wisconsin - with serious intentions. :) We are so blessed by the Lord's hand in our lives, and are excited about the future.

What does this mean in regards to my trip to Moldova, you may ask? Well, if you recall in past blog posts, I have mentioned struggles with knowing if I am to return to Moldova. This was the root issue. I have since then stepped out in faith, and chosen to trust God, and follow him to Moldova. But Michail is over here! Yes, he is, and it will be a challenge to be so far away, but there is nothing too hard for God. Will it put our relationship to the test? Absolutely. Is God big enough to handle that for us? Definitely. My Savior-He can move the mountains. He can make possible what seems IM-possible. He is God. There is no other like Him. I call His name Jesus. He is all that I need. He is more than enough for me. He will sustain me, us. He will uphold us, and keep us. There is nothing like the test of time to set in stone the plan of God!

I greatly covet your prayers right now. I am experiencing a lot of testing and proving, and I am attempting to learn what it all means to get ready to leave my own country for a long time. It is hard, to be blatantly honest. Part of me doesn't want to go. But, I know that God has called me. I know He will lead me and direct me, and even renew the passion I once had. Please stand behind me. I need strong arms to support me, and keep me going. I would love to hear from those that are willing to hold me up in prayer. We all need a bit of encouragement sometimes.
Thank you for how you have allowed Christ to minister to me through your life. I look forward to hearing from you!

im serious....

alright folks, I really AM going to be updating soon...just as soon as everything that's been flying around like crazy calms down. It's beginning to. I am thankful that in the midst of everything that's been really busy, the Lord Himself my peace. I guess I just have not learned well enough yet how to trust in His strength. I just keep thinking mine is going to hold me. nope. not one bit. I need to trust Him fully. without restraint. without holding on to anything else. without imagining my own way to "fix" a problem.
this is something I have been pondering lately...where is your treasure? the word of God says, "where your treasure is, there your heart will also be". If your heart is where your treasure is, then that means that where your treasure and your heart are, there is the rest of you also. Just like your body surrounds your heart, so whatever/whoever we are treasuring, or holding dear, is surrounded by all of our focus, all of our attention, all of our passion. we can't get away from it. so, where IS my treasure? where IS my focus? where is my heart?

it is better to wait; better to trust; better to lean...on the Lord

wow..its been so long
since I've been here-
sorry about that.

I have much to tell. God has been working, though much of it remains to be seen on my part.
Let me begin by saying that the process of my application for returning to Moldova has been a longer procedure than I imagined. This coming Monday, I have scheduled a time to have a phone interview with OM, which is the next step. I don't know what will follow after that, but I am praying that things are able to move along a little faster after this.

Recent events in my life have included my little sister getting married-now a week ago, already! My part was making her wedding cake, which took about 4 days, but turned out splendidly, if I can say so. I would love to copy the idea for a future cake. I really saw God's strength and help right beside me as I put it all together. I don't recall any complications once I began baking and decorating! This is really uncommon for cakes, and you know what I mean if you have done something similar. There is always some kind of quirk. I was also getting over a bad cold as I was getting ready to make these cakes. (Don't worry, I was really careful about my germs!) The Lord really was with me. My sister Katie was a big help in transporting and assembling them at the reception as well.

Over all, the wedding was a huge success, when in the days previous, it seemed that there were a lot of loose ends. On top of it all, the best man-best friend to my brother in law-ended up giving his heart to Christ the day after the wedding! Many of my mom's family were able to make it in town from Missouri-it was really special to see them, especially my grandma, who may not be able to make this trip anymore, as a result of her failing health.

On a more serious note, I want to explain how I have been tested lately. I have had a short season where I began to lose sight of what God had called me to in Moldova. I struggled with the question of maybe I was not suppose to go back. Some personal issues have, of late, created a weakening of the desire to leave the country soon. I have prayed, and asked counsel of Godly friends and family, and after a few days of struggle, I realized that I should not be the one trying to change God's mind.

"I know, O LORD, that the way of man is not in himself, that it is not in man who walks to direct his steps"
Jer.10:23

If God wants to lead me in a different direction than how I believe He has spoken clearly to me, then He certainly has the right to do that..but it is up to Him. My heart wants to do His will, that's why there was such a struggle. I was stuck in the middle of what I wanted and what He wanted. I chose to plunge into His will. I decided to run head-long into what I felt He originally spoke to me. If my head gets stuck where He didn't intend, then He sure can pull me out. But, until I hear otherwise from Him, I can do nothing but obey. Obedience. That is what it came down to. How much of God's commands to me am I willing to obey?

"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matt.28:19,20

This passage stood out to me after I was able to take part in a recent conference called "Breakthrough", where 14 local churches gathered together to pray for a breakthrough in our joint county of Walworth. One pastor explained that the lack of obedience to all the commands of God is what is causing such great confusion in the Body of Christ. God used this to confirm to me what He had already spoken to me about obedience. I have been reading and studying the book of John, and lately, chapter 5. Jesus spoke a lot about how much He was in submission to His Father, and how He could do nothing apart from what His Father gave Him a command to do.

"Jesus gave them this answer: "I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.
" "By myself I can do nothing; I judge only as I hear, and my judgment is just, for I seek not to please myself but him who sent me."
John 5:19,30

I realized this truth yesterday, as I was working in the camp office, and getting really frustrated with my own ignorance, my lack of access to help. Over and over, I realize, I tried to help myself; tried to figure things out in my own strength. I was asking for God's help, yes, but only as I kept trying myself. It was only after a while, that I stopped...and realized that I had not once paused and quieted myself before God, and asked for Him to take control. I had been saying, "Lord, help me", not , "Lord, be in charge". Without Him, I cannot be anything-I am nothing. It was a simple mistake, but one I am guilty of making often I think. It is better to wait, to take time to be still, and know that HE is God.
One song says,
'It is better to wait on the Lord God Almighty, than to lean on what you understand...'

So, I have decided to lean...in the direction of His understanding; trusting in His control, and not my own.

Currently, I am a little busier than normal with duties at the camp here. My boss' wife had surgery recently, and will be out of work for a few weeks at least, so my job has become more full time as of this weekend. I am grateful that it is not a busy weekend, so I can take over slowly. God knows what I can handle. He is with me. I am thankful that He can be trusted.

in the quiet times

when can you hear the rain gently light upon the leaves of the trees as it makes it's way to the awaiting earth? at what time does the ticking of a clock sound strangely loud to you? what does it take to catch the tones of the beating of a dear heart?
It is interesting to note that may beautiful things in life cannot be heard or enjoyed in the presence of much commotion or noise.
I have experienced a lot of quiet today as I have spent much time in bed, resting, because of a bad cold. I have a very full week approaching, and one that will no doubt be full of commotion and noise. I am grateful for this day I have had to rest. I think God knew I needed to just 'sit down', figuratively speaking, and let go of everything I have been trying to balance. This week, I am going to be preparing a wedding cake for my little sister's wedding. Much of the technique I will be using to make a specific frosting is something very new to me. I have offered to step out on a limb and try something new. I guess I have been a little concerned about how it will all turn out. I think God is telling me I need to just rest and trust Him, which is true in all of life. Why is it that sometimes I feel I can do certain things on my own, but other areas definitely require God's help? In everything I should recognize the need for my Father.

As far as any recent news regarding the mission field, I can honestly say that I have heard nothing from the OM office, and am in a place of continuing to wait on the Lord to open the right doors, and the ones that will be effectual in drawing others to Him. I want His will. I also don't want to be sitting back waiting for something to just appear. For this I ask for prayer. I want to go ahead as if I have already heard that I am going back to Moldova this fall. But, I feel a bit afraid. Maybe I am not trusting the Lord to the extent that I should. I know I struggle in this area. It is a growing process. He teaches me as I walk with Him. I guess the important thing is that I keep walking with Him and not ahead of Him, or behind Him. I don't want to get so exuberant over what He is planning to do in the future that I run ahead of His will.
It is in the quiet places that He speaks, and in the stillness as we wait before Him, that we are able to hear His voice. He will not fail to make His will known. He loves us- Oh how He loves us!
Yes, there are many decisions before me right now. I cannot even speak of them all. Some are personal, some are just between the Lord and I. But, all are before Him, and all of them He is concerned about. And not just that, but all of them, He has an answer for.

God is jealous over me. He wants all of my heart, all of my affection. I recently came across the following song. Although it is one from years back, it is the cry of my heart. I want to be willing to say to the Lord that I lay down all of myself, all of my ambition, all that I have gained on this earth, and should He choose somehow to use my laid-down life, then here it is: it all belongs to Him anyway.

I Surrender All
David Moffit and Reggie Hamm

I have wrestled in the darkness of this lonely pilgrim land
Raising strong and mighty fortresses that I alone command
But these castles I've constructed by the strength of my own hand
Are just temporary kingdoms on foundations made of sand
In the middle of the battle I believe I've finally found
I'll never know the thrill of victory 'til I'm willing to lay down
All my weapons of defense and earthly strategies of war
So I'm laying down my arms and running helplessly to Yours

Chorus:
I surrender all my silent hopes and dreams
Though the price to follow costs me everything
I surrender all my human soul desires
If sacrifice requires
That all my kingdoms fall
I surrender all

If the source of my ambition is the treasure I obtain
If I measure my successes on a scale of earthly gain
If the focus of my vision is the status I attain
My accomplishments are worthless and my efforts are in vain
So I lay aside these trophies to pursue a higher crown
And should You choose somehow to use the life I willingly lay down
I surrender all the triumph for it's only by Your grace
I relinquish all the glory, I surrender all the praise

Bridge:
Everything I am, all I've done, and all I've known
Now belongs to You, the life I live is not my own
Just as Abraham laid Isaac on the sacrificial fire
If all I have is all that You desire
I surrender all
-----------------------------------------------------------------------

what is our life? what is so special about man that the God of the universe should take notice of us? we are as grass, that grows today, and tomorrow is cut down. Our life is as as a puff of smoke. who will remember it? What does it profit to try to gain success in this world? Why not gain for the world to come for Jesus Christ? Today I heard again the story of a faithful couple who became martyrs for Christ, after inwardly resolving to lay down their lives for the sake of Christ, and surrendering their lives to Him for His service. Two short years after their marriage, they were brutally killed for standing for their Lord. Their lives are a living testimony still, of commitment to the best Cause one could ever die for-the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Why not live this life for today, as if it were your last, because we are not promised tomorrow!

'Only one life will soon be past; only what's done for Christ will last'

He's my mountain mover

it's pretty late, but i am still up, so I thought I would add a little update to these pages.

I went for my physical today, and returned with a clean bill of health. "You are healthy!", said my doctor. It was good to hear. I am one step closer in preparation for Moldova now. Next I have to send my physical results and other paperwork into the OM office and then I wait to hear from them about being accepted for the position of serving in Moldova.

I would appreciate your continued prayers for the sake of some other issues that have surfaced that I am having to trust God for: some personal things going on in my life presently that seem to be as big as a mountain in front of me, and I can't see what's on the other side cause the mountain is so large. I am beginning to see maybe why God gave me the verse in Luke 1, while still in Moldova, about there being nothing impossible with Him. He knew there would be some hard tests coming along for me this summer. I want to be willing to trust Him, no matter what it may require of me to do that. I know God is building character in my life through all these experiences, and I would not trade them for a life full of ease and comfort. He knows what He is making of me! I like the song lyrics that say, "He's not finished with me yet". I am a work in progress. But He knows exactly what I will look like in the end!

stretchability : how far are you ready to fly?

its good to be reminded of things sometimes. today a friend reminded me of a couple words that missionaries learn to relate to real fast.

1. patience

wait for an answer. wait for a phone call. wait for paperwork. wait for a response. wait for funds. wait for test results. wait for mail. wait for a car repair. wait for a good night's sleep. wait to see a seed planted to produce fruit. etc, etc, etc.

But what does patience produce? The ability to wait long on God and to bear fruit for His kingdom. Patience creates ears that are willing to listen to those who are hurting. It teaches you to be sensitive and compassionate. Jesus had compassion on the multitudes, and fed them, by giving of Himself when He was tired. Learning patience means you are given opportunities to be patient. We can't attain some virtue without seeing our lack of it, can we? So, when you see your lack of patience, and it frustrates you, but you come through the test triumphantly, be encouraged that you have just attained a new level of what you have been seeking after.

2. flexibility (a.k.a. stretchability)

Have you ever watched a child with a rubber band? Maybe you have had fun yourself with these strips of continuous stretchy stuff. Stretch, stretch.....let go! Rubber bands are quite worthless on their own. They can't get up and make anything of themselves. They are ugly, and pointless without the help of someone who can make use of them.
Think of their use: STRETCH around something to hold it together. But, have you ever seen a dried up band? It's not worth anything, and when it's stretched, it breaks. They stay useful when they are put to good use.

Ok. I do have a point here. I like to think of myself sometimes as a rubber band. I imagine God holding on to me, and thinking over a plan He has in His mind. Where will He send me? What will He use me for? (stretch) God remembers, and He smiles. He thinks on where He will send me(stretch), and what He will do with me(stretch). It is a perfect plan. It has been in His mind from the beginning.

He takes careful aim, stretching me possibly more than ever, and then lets go. Does he stand and watch how far I go, and where I land? I picture Him running underneath me as I sail through the air, over obstacles, across great heights, and when I land, He is there, to catch me when I come down, right in the perfect place He intended-again in His hands.

Do you ever think the rubber band is not willing to go where one wants to send it? Some bands are definitely not as stretchy. Some are resistant. That usually would cause me to choose another. I never want that to happen with me. I don't want God to pick me up with all His plans and intentions for my life, and find me resistant to His will, and have to choose another in my place.

So use me Lord for your purposes! Stretch me, mold me, shape me, prepare me. Set me in your hands, stretch me to the limit, and let me fly as far as You choose. I am willing to fall into Your hands in the place you have prepared for me, whether near or far. Whether a place of comfort, or a place that requires me to be stretched more permanently, to draw others together, or hold together those who are seeking to follow You.

I appreciate those who take the time to read these ramblings from my heart. I hope it encourages some, and sets you on your path to fly.....as far as your Maker has chosen for you. Don't limit Him! He has a perfect plan for you!

Trust God. Trust God. Trust God

"Consider replacing your battery", is what my lap top is telling me with a flashing red icon. One more thing to think about on my long list of things to do. Have you ever wanted to just 'replace your battery'? Ever feel like things are just running on without you, and you just can't keep up? I have been feeling that way lately. There is so much to do, and I feel like there is so little time. Maybe I am trusting in my own strength? Maybe I have failed to think about how much God cares for me, and has not forgotten me? It is so easy as a human to try and logically think things out. "how will I make money?", or, "who will I marry?", or, "where does God want me to serve Him?", or, "how do I love this person that is so unlovable?", and all such questions we may ask ourselves. God has the same answer for every circumstance. Trust Me. Just trust. Believe that I know. And again, God is asking me to trust Him. He wants me to remember that He is the mountain-Creator, so why can He not be the mountain-mover? He definitely is. There are many little details about my preparation for returning to Moldova this fall. Sometimes I wonder if I will get them all done! Delays. They can either bring you down, or they can create character. As mentioned above, I am having technical difficulties with my computer. It has done well for me all this time, but now it's ready to give up. I am almost on 'empty' in my funds tank, and that can be discouraging when there are so many expenses coming up. But my Father is like the gas station that never runs dry. He knows all about my needs, large and small, and He is more than willing to help, and to meet every one that He knows is important. I hope to soon post more detailed information about my needs. But at this point I don't know the numbers. Please remember me in prayer as I make decisions, set up appointments, fill out documents, etc. God is right here with me. He is taking my hand and leading me step by step. Thank you for standing with me. You are God's hands here on earth, holding me up. All my love, melanie

Domnul te va pazi la plecare si la venire de acum si pina in veac Psalmii 121:8

My God is with me, just as He has promised. He said He would be with me as I depart, and as I return, and I have found Him to be true to His word.

I have now been home in America for about 3 days, and there have been some challenges, though not unexpected. Imagine living in a completely different culture for 3 months, sharing everyday life with a certain people group every day for those 3 months, and getting use to that being 'home'. All around you is a language spoken that is not your native language, but it has become the norm as every part of your life now involves this language. Can you imagine this? I know most of you cannot, if you have never spent any time in another very different culture and among a strange language.

I am experiencing some culture shock, as well as jet lag yet.
I have been able to sleep at night, for which I am very grateful to the Lord, after being exhausted all day trying to keep myself awake. I have found that I have been waking up almost every morning at 4am...lunch time in Moldova :) ...but have been able to sleep again afterwards. Moldova's time zone is about 8 hours later than CST. I have heard that it will take a while to adjust. So far it has not been real bad. I just have to keep active during the day, and I stay awake. :)
This week I am taking it slow, laying low, hanging out with my family, and just resting. I have a lot I feel I should be doing, and part of me wants to jump right on it, but I know I have to prioritize the time that I have here to be with family.
I am encouraged that Jesus is by my side, and as I take His hand, He will continue to lead me in the path that He has already prepared for me from the beginning of time.

stateside

dear faithful prayer warriors,
thank you for praying for me. it was sad to part with my friends, teammates, and dear brothers and sisters in Christ yesterday, but yet with a promise of the future. So, we didn't say goodbye, but see you later.
Today has been a long day of travel, with more hours than should normally be in a day, if you count them all together. I have been traveling from Moldova for about 20 hours with very little sleep, but I have made it safely home to America, and I am happy to report that there were no complications with my flights, and I think I could say it was the easiest return trip home from overseas, as far as travel goes. I know you were praying, and I so appreciate that you had my back. I arrived in my home town at about 3:30pm(CST).
Right now I am feeling the effects of the time change, and feel like i need to be in bed like the rest of Moldova is, but I'm doing my best to stay awake.
Upon reaching the airport in Germany, I had to stand in line for the restroom, and because I happened to be carrying a bag that said Chisinau on it, from Moldova, a conversation was started between another woman and I. I had previously recognized by her dress, and her language that she was from Moldova, and was of course interested very much in maybe talking to her. God opened it up! She began by asking me about my bag. With my very limited knowledge of the Romanian language, I ended up having a conversation with her, and it was fun! I was excited at how much I could communicate, though I'm sure my use of certain verbs were wrong. At a certain point she asked her daughter I believe, who was walking by in the airport, to translate. It felt good to be able to communicate! I think I tried more with her than I ever did when I was in Moldova, and I didn't even know her. :) She sent me off with 'Drum bun' and 'Dumnezeu se va binecuvanteze' (God speed, and God bless).
On my return flight from Frankfurt, Germany, as God would have it, I sat next to a woman who was a former missionary in South Africa. We bonded in Christ immediately, and shared many experiences. It was an extra special blessing to meet her, and to share fellowship, and be encouraged to keep trusting God to make a way for my every situation. Thanks Adeye!
I was received with a hug by some dear friends at the airport, as my family is away picking up a sister from Bible school this weekend.
I ask again for your prayer support as I get accustomed to live not in Moldova now. The reverse culture shock is sometimes more difficult I think. I appreciate your patience with me. Thank you again for standing behind me and praying me home.
I love you, and more reports will hopefully come soon.

God is good all the time, and in every situation He is faithful

I want to try to give a little update on what's happening right now with me.

I am presently in Chisinau, and am safe from harm. I still plan to leave for the USA on Friday morning, in spite of the fact that it may be impossible. I know that God sees the whole picture, and is in control. I am not worried. I know He will make a way for what He sees best for me.

So far, as of today, I heard that there has been another eruption in Iceland, and the flights that were opening up have been canceled again. I have heard nothing regarding my flight yet, whether or not it has been canceled.

I am not in any danger, and am with friends. I have until 2 May to be in Moldova legally. If I am for some reason still here then I will have to go to another country, like Romania.

Thank you for your prayers! I am excited to see what God has planned for this situation. I think there is really going to be a testimony from this. I have heard that the last time there was a volcano like this, it went on for 2 1/2 years. But, we serve the Almighty God! He created these things, and can put them to an end in an instant.

Keep believing God, and hopefully i will be home soon with a report to share.

urgent prayer

please pray for me in regards to my return flight home to America. If you are not aware, there has been, and is presently a volcano erruption in Iceland. the ash from it has effected many flights across Europe-cancelling thousands. Please pray that by Friday, the ash has cleared and the air is safe enough for travel. Also remember in prayer those who have been stranded in the airports in many countries.

Coming to the finish line

It's with a mixture of emotions that I think of the 10 days that remain for me here in Moldova. I am sad to have to say goodbye, but also looking forward to returning. I am excited to return home and share about the daily occurances here in Moldova that have become as normal as waking up in the morning, but I know there will be some challenges to face at home as well. This is the first time I have been out of the country for 3 months, so I know there is going to be a lot of culture shock upon returning home, especially in regards to the fact that Moldova is so culturally different from the States. I appreciate your prayers in regards to this for me!
Today in Moldova is a day called the Easter for the dead. It is a national holiday, where Moldovans go to local cemetaries and bring food and celebrate. They believe that somehow the dead will take part as well. They leave food at the cemetary. I believe it has something to to do with helping them gain entrance into heaven. It's strange, because Easter as we know it is celebrated so widely here as well, and far more than I have ever seen it celebrated in America. They really make a big celebration about Jesus being alive, but then only a week later, they are celebrating over dead people. There are so many such bondages here in Moldova. So much truth with deception tangled in it, that it's hard to see if the truth is there or not.
As I prepare to leave this Moldova, I would appreciate prayer for my travels. I fly out of Moldova at about 7 pm on the night of the 22 for those stateside. For me it's going to be a pretty early morning on Friday that I fly. With all the time change, I arrive mid-afternoon in Milwaukee. I am going back in time...that in itself will be a lot to get use to! It will be about 1am on Saturday, Moldovan time.
Please pray also that I can get things wrapped up here well, and get through all the goodbyes... :( as well as any other small issues that may coem up between now and then. I appreciate the fact that you are praying and standing behind me!

Hristos Inviat! Adevarat a Inviat!

Christ has indeed risen. What news of victory! I think of this day and how so many years ago, so many wondered what had become of their Lord and Savior. So many doubted. I wonder how many believed that He would rise as He said? How much unbelief was in the air on this day?
Praise God He shattered all that unbelief by raising His Son from the grave!

Today in Moldova was a day of preparation for tomorrow-Easter Sunday. We as a team, along with the team that joined us here in Rezina, gathered at the church this morning to do some practical work to help the church members make the grounds and building look sharp.

Tomorrow is quite a full day with many things prepared for the morning service. Following the morning service, we will join with the Transit team to reach out to children from the local Day Center with our Easter program we have used all week, though a bit modified, because of more new ideas, and more people.

Christ is Risen! He is Risen Indeed!

transit team

thank you to those who have prayed in regards to the European Transit team coming to us for a few days. There has again been a delay in them reaching us as planned. They had some difficulty yesterday(Wednesday) at the border, because of the lack of some documents for their vehicle. Because of this they were delayed another whole day. The good news is, they have now made it safely to Moldova, and they will still be coming to us, planning to arrive this evening in Rezina.
We are excited about what the Lord is going to do here as we join together for a few days.
Please remember us in prayer for details that have yet to be worked out.
Pray also for spiritual protection for our team as we continue to present the message of Christ's death and resurrection to these Moldovan children. We have felt what appears to be a spiritual exhaustion, and we need an extra boost of strength to keep going. What would the devil want more than to thwart the plans of God to present the most inportant message of all time?

I send to you all my greetings from Moldova, and from all the churches here that I am connected with through OM. Greetings are always abundant here. God's blessings to you, and a blessed day in celebration of the finished work of Christ!

sometimes you just have to laugh :)

The days continue to be beautiful here in Rezina. I am just amazed at how God has blessed me here. At night when we walk home from church, the stars and the moon are just breathtaking. I could just spend all night outside.

There are so many funny stories to tell about life in general here. I will try to share a few with you.

Our team has the use of an old land Rover from England, which means that driving is on the right side of the car, which is not the way cars are in Moldova. So, we get the strangest looks whenever we travel anywhere in the car. It gives us lots of time for laughter! This past Thursday we had a couple ocurrances with the Land Rover that were somewhat funny. On our way to the village of Pripiceni, there were lights going on on the dash that we were unsure if we should pay attention to them. When we were ready to go home, we found a flat tire! The guys worked on it, and eventually got a spare put on. I tried to give my help where I could, but things are a little different here, and you have to improvise where certain tools are lacking.
When we returned to Rezina, we were parking the car, and the window on the driver's side decided it didn't want to serve it's purpose anymore, and dropped out of sight in the door! :) Another girl and I tried to extract the window, but to so avail. We ended up leaving it open all night, and next day, one of our guys was able to pull out the window.
Another incident, was that all day yesterday we had no water in our apt. I guess it has happened before, and has eventually come back. It turned out that a visitor we had must have turned off the water in the bathroom in the wrong place. So the water for the whole place was shut off, instead of just the toilet water. We were convinced that there was a problem in Rezina with the water, but it ended up just being a simple mistake. I realized how grateful I am for water, after not having it!
I have started jogging very early in the morning- it's a blessing to be out so early and see the sun rising, and a fresh morning every day. God has spoken so many things to me on these runs.

Please remember my team this week as we present an Easter program to about 7 villages. We have a short time to practice and prepare for what we are going to share. Pray for us that the true message of the work of Christ is presented, and it's not just 'another program'.

This week I will also find out more details about long term missions in moldova. Please keep me in prayer as I make more decisions, and step out further into what God has prepared for me.

Thank you for remembering me in prayer!

what are GIANTS? where are the MOUNTAINS? My GOD is Bigger!

Spring has finally come to Moldova! Flowers are blooming in the forest, baby animals are running around everywhere, and the streets are full of children and people of all ages, enjoying the warm weather.
The past few days we have had temperatures reaching to the mid 70's, and it has been wonderful to go about without a coat!
What is new? I am excited about what God has been speaking to me. I have been waiting on Him for the next step in my missins experience, and in His plan for my life, and I believe He has given me a clear answer. I have desired to return to Moldova, and have been praying about it, and have really wanted to know from God clearly, so that I have an answer to give to those that will ask me, as well as my own heart when it begins to doubt. So, in answer to your questions that I know you have...I plan to retrn to Moldova for an extended period of time, probably beginning this coming September, 2010. I cannot explain many details yet, because it is yet very new to me. I will need extra prayer for this big step. I have stepped out and agreed with God, but now there are more things to consider, and work through. I will keep you posted about more specific prayer requests in this area.
Currently, the LMT(Local Ministry Team) in Rezina where I am is getting a little bit more busy. By next weekend, we plan to have a small European team join us for a few days. They are travelling around Europe doing ministry, and will be in Rezina for about 3 days. We are putting together a plan for while they are here, as well as programs to share with the children for Easter. Our team has continued to grow and shrink as the weeks pass, and it has created some challenges, but all have been opportunities for growth.
Glinjeni:
Today, there was a challenge, as there were only two of us girls available to go to a village called Glinjeni. Michaela is from Austria, and though she has been in Moldova for a year, sometimes the Romanian language can be a struggle when it comes to teaching Bible stories. She and I were going to this village, and I have not yet caught on to the language enough to do more than say some words. Also, we were taking a car that was not very reliable, and we were not completely sure of the way...All that said, we were facing what seemed to be some giants, but our God was faithful to bring us safely there, and we really had a great time with the children. They are so sweet, and try to get us to stay with them as long as possible.

Please remember in prayer some needs from other villages we minister in:

Pripiceni:
-children's program: many of these children are very active, and it's often a struggle to keep their interest. pray for wisdom for us as we plan and present the love of God to these kids.
-english lessons: opportunities to reach these young people with the gospel as well as through lessons

Ciniseuti:
-children's program: not many children coming lately, possibly having to do with the weather, but, it can be discouraging
-mother of a former LMT member is in the hospital. she is blind.

Papauti:
-children's program(same as above)
-english lessons

Gordinesti:
-believers gathering for church: not many-pray for strength and encouragement

Saharna:
-influences from the local monestary: pray for the truth to be made known
-kids program: consistancy in children that come-very sporadic, and its hard to keep up with lessons with new kids every week

Rezina:
-outreach to the local Maxima shop/small food store: recently had a fire, and the local Baptist church has asked to lend a hand with clean up and repairs. They were accepted gladly, though with surprise. pray for continued opportunities to help, and reach these people for Christ.
-Pastor Virgil and Sister Larisa: travelling to Holland for Easter to visit a church there-pray for safe travel, and the church while they are gone

Thank you to all those who are stopping by to read these updates. I hope you are getting an idea of what it's like here. Please ask questions if you are wondering about anything that I am involved with here, or what God is doing.

I miss you, my friends, and I will soon be returning. It is hard to believe that 3 months can go by so fast! Tomorrow is one month until I fly home. Please keep me in prayer as there are a lot of details to cover before that day.

God bless and keep you!

Pace Domnului! the peace of God

marching on in moldova-WE DON'T QUIT!

Dear everyone,
here I am again, sitting down late at the computer to attempt to fill you in on details that have become daily life to me now. Yes, I feel like I am finally getting use to being here, and today I even called Rezina "home".
It is so hard to not be able to share all the details. Every day has it's joys and it's frustrations at times, but always some reminder that God Almighty has put his fingerprint on it. Everything there is to share would not fit in these pages.
Let's see...this past week we had a week of being stretched a little bit, as we had only 5 of the usual 8 team members in Rezina, and almost all of the same outreaches to be involved with. So, being short staffed, it meant that each of us had to work a little harder, and give a little more, and maybe do more things than normally were required of us. For me, this meant teaching a Bible story-the first time I have since being here in Moldova this year-among other things. We learned a lot as a smaller team, especially about trusting God to strengthen us when we were weak, and to see spiritual opposition as a reality. It seemed like everything happened this week that could, and many times we just could not understand why. But, God was faithful to remind us of His goodness, in spite of what our eyes could see. In the girls apartment, the heat stopped working for a few days, among a few other minor things that decided that this week was the time to fall apart. :)
We delivered some food packets this week in the Rezina area, to some elderly people, and spent some time visiting with them and hearing their stories. It is often sad to hear what they have been through. One woman is bedridden, and had been for the past two years. Her husband had been an invalid from 1968-2008, when he passed away. She cared for him all those years herself. 40 days after his death, she had an accident with a ladder, and broke her knee, and injured her head pretty badly, causing damage to her eyes. She was hospitalized for a time, but now is in bed at home. She gets very fearful when the woman that helps her goes home for the night, and leaves her alone. We encouraged her by reading scripture, and talking about Christ's love for her. She cannot see well enough to read the Bible. This is one of the many stories from our house visits this week in Rezina. On Wednesday, in the village of Cineseuti, I was again part of a small team visiting homes. We met with a woman who had grown up in Siberia. She now lives in Moldova, and cares for her grandson. She lives off of a very small pension, and in her case, this pension is divided between two families-not very much to live on. In the valley where she lives, there is no source of water, which is a hardship, because water is used for everything. Imagine how often you use water during the day: drinking, cooking, cleaning, washing laundry, taking a bath, etc. In most places in Moldova, there are wells for water, but here, in the valley, there is nothing. They have to walk uphill 400 meters to find the closest water source. It is a big job, but I'm sure they are grateful that it is downhill when they come home with the water! I am not sure how often they have to make trips, but the can they use to transport it doesn't seem to be very large.

Praise and prayer from Rezina-
Friday night, our pastor, Brother Virgil, stayed late at the church preparing for sunday service, and was there until after 11pm. A woman of about 30 years, stopped by the church because she saw the light on. She was on her way to commit suicide, she told the pastor. He was able to talk to her, and ended up bringing her home to stay the night with his family, and her plans never came to pass, thanks be to God. Sometimes we never know why God allows us to be at a certain place at a specific time. Often He may have someone waiting, that needs a helping hand, or a touch from God to turn them from the darkness into the light. Please pray for this woman. Her name is Tanja. Pray that she surrender her life to God, and find hope in Him.

Remember Pastor Virgil in prayer as well. Being a Pastor in Moldova can be very challenging, and taxing, and he gets no breaks, as our team does.
Other pastors that we work alongside are as follows. Please remember them in prayer as well as their villages where they minister:
*Ciniseuti_Brother Anatol
*Papauti_Bro.Gheorgh
*Pripiceni/Gordinesti_Bro. Mihai
*Saharna_Bro Alexei
* Glenceni_Bro. Igor
*Mateuti_Bro. Grisa

Miscellaneous prayer needs from Rezina:
-some team members need financial help
-Transit team:a group is coming to Rezina at the end of March
*pray as we prepare for their arrival, and plan for their stay here
-an elderly sister in the church is very sick with cancer. she wants to be able to visit the church one more time before she dies. pray for her husband as well, who has faithfully cared for her.
-our team: unity, love for one another, and order. much has been shaken up lately, and we are still trying to settle back into a normal routine again.
-local business: a shop just recently had a terrible fire, that must have occurred overnight, and was electrical. It was a big loss! We used this shop to purchase food for the food parcels we deliver, as well as for personal use. I am not sure about the full extent of the damage, or whether there were any people injured, but I can imagine such a big loss to the owners themselves, already living in a poor country.

On a lighter note, I went food shopping again in Chisinau, the capital city here, and found it much easier than last month when I felt absolutely lost. I am glad to see some improvement!
As far as language goes, I have noticed that I am catching on to more things that I hear in conversation. I think I am getting closer to understanding, though speaking will come a little slower. I know that I need to try harder to use the words that I know, and it will help. It can be very intimidating, but I am determined, and I have such awesome friends that are helping me, and challenging me to learn.

Yesterday, 8 March, was 'Women's day' in Moldova, a government-recognized holiday for all women, though very similar to Mother's day in the USA. The guys of our team made us feel really special with a presentation and a meal in our honor!

March 1 was Moldova's official 1st day of spring, and it seemed like it would be so, but then we had another fresh fall of snow this past Friday, and it is forecasted that we will get heavy snow this week...well, Spring came and went I guess!

On a personal note, I have been blessed by God more this past week than in most of the time I have been here. In the midst of a trying week, he showed me how close He was/is. Today, through the words of a new song, Where You Go, I'll Go, God spoke to me, and reminded me that all I need to see is His hand, and be sure that I am holding on tightly to Him. I don't need to see the future, or anything that is ahead that He has not chosen to show me yet. I just need to hold on to Him, and be content with that. If everything else is dark around me, but I feel His hand holding mine close, I have nothing to fear or worry about.

During a devotion this week, one of the guys on my team asked us what we were created for?
To glorify God. As he shared passages on this truth, I began to picture the earth being filled with the glory of the Lord. How can this happen? If we were created to bring glory back to God, then everyone that has chosen to allow this glory to flow through them will be returning that to God. Since the body of Christ is all over the earth, then the earth is being filled with the glory of the Lord! Every time another heart and life is committed to the Lord, that person begins to send glory up to God...can you picture it? Glory rising up to God from the earth that is full of His glory manifested in the lives of saints around the globe.

In closing, please remember me in prayer, along with the former mentioned needs.

-a steady focus on God
-building relationships with people
-my future in missions
